Brief History

The Preachers of Divine Mercy Monastery (PDM) was erected by Mar Jacob Manathodath (Bishop Emeritus of Palghat Diocese), first as a clerical pious union on 24th April 2018, and later raised to the status of a monastery on 30 th May, 2021. PDM Monastery was jointly founded by His Grace Mar Jacob Manathodath, Rev. Fr Xavier Khan Vattayil PDM, Rev. Fr Binoy Karimaruthinkal PDM and Rev. Mother Amy Emmanuel ASJM. The formation of the initial candidates began on 28th April 2018. The first house of PDM was installed at PDM Hills, Attapadi on the 4th of December 2018. This paved the way for further development of the seminary for the formation of various batches. On 15th of October 2020, His Grace Bishop Jacob Manathodath was present at the vestition of the PDM’s first batch and he also blessed the seminary compound. At present, we are 56 in number (including come-and- see candidates), among these, there are 3 solemnly professed priests and 15 temporarily professed members. Those who have done their first profession are pursuing their Major Seminary studies at Vadavathoor Seminary, Kottayam and Mary Matha Seminary, Thrissur. They stay in PDM study houses located near to the seminaries. At present, 5 candidates are doing novitiate in PDM. In addition, there are 15 candidates in PDM Seminary undergoing various stages of religious formation. Besides these, there are 10 candidates preparing themselves for their entry as PDM Aspirants. We also have 9 candidates pursuing their bachelor’s degree and 4 students doing their school studies.
